Southern Sheep Dog Trial Society

It may surprise some people to find that there were sheepdog trials held in Southern England 70 years ago and they were big days out, attracting handlers from far afield. The pages in the gallery are lifted from a programme of the Southern Sheep Dog Trial Society from 1948. There were two days of qualifiers held on 20th May at Chichester and 21st May in Eastbourne, with a final Championship day on 22nd May at Ovingdean in Brighton. There was a singles class and a brace with 13 pairs entered in the latter. There is also a newspaper clipping from Daily Graphic reporting on the trial on 20th May at Chichester.
